formspring: round one
[because anna posted her questions and answers on her blog, and i want to be like anna. trex+catgrove forever.]
What was your first paying job?
i was a clerical secretary at a law office during the summer. basically, i went to starbucks and jamba juice a lot, got lunch for the office every day, made lots of copies and spent a lot of time on myspace.
What kind of music can you just not stand to listen to?
it’s really hard to listen to the dixie chicks at work.
Chocolate or Vanilla?
Who’s the most beautiful person you know?
What message would you want to put in a fortune cookie?
oooh this is easy!
“all gardeners live in beautiful places because they make them so.”
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
i’ve never been good with ten year plans.
If you could instantly become an expert at one style of dance, what style would you pick?
salsa. i’ve tried, but it just doesn’t happen for me.
Is it hard to stay so positive? How do you do it, in the face of what you’ve been through?
well, i’ve been quite fortunate that most of the trials i’ve faced have been direct consequences of my choices. i made poor decisions and that led to enormous amounts of hurt for me. but being able to take responsibility for those choices is important. blaming other people will not allow progress.
irregardless of “who’s to blame” for your trials, it will always be difficult to stay positive. for me, it’s important to find outlets of any frustration i feel. i work out (hello, endorphins!), make good choices for my health (eating well, lots of H2O, sleep), painting, yoga, meditation and prayer are huge, and i spend my time with people that are positive influences and generally happy people as well. cannot stress the importance of the company you keep.
it’s also important to hold your thoughts captive. stop “stinkin’ thinkin'”. it’s a lame phrase i know, but try it. anytime a negative thought comes into your head, STOP THINKING IT, and REPLACE it with something beautiful. distract you mind from the darkness with thoughts of love. make a list, a physical, hand written list of the beautiful things in your life and refer back to it. i posted mine in my bedroom by the light switch for a looooooong time. (if you need help making it, just ask!)
here is my favorite quote that’s gotten me through the pits of darkness: [all gardeners live in beautiful places because they make them so.] as in, eveything in life is a choice. you can look at how depressing a situation is, how everything seems to be caving in, or you can look at the beautiful world around you, smile and let love flow through you.
