exciting news!!!

hopefully, i will be completing goal #99, get conch (not to be confused with ‘cooch’) pierced this week! i’m going to a piercer tomorrow to make sure that they can do what i want to do (get a hoop like the one below) and price it. i’ve been spending more money than usual lately (ie: camera purchase), but i think it’s worth it. plus, sophie is going with me to get her nose done! yay us!

also, i bought my first christmas present this year! and now that i have my camera, i can work on a few others ideas that i have for people’s gifts.

it’s the most wonderful time of the yearrrrrr!

(actually i am kind of hating the holidays this year. but more on that later.)

progress report, week four

sorry for the late post…this was an awfully busy week, and it’s also the end of the first month! hooray!!!

goal #2, write don twice/month thru march, once in april:
okay, i am a terrible person and said in a previous post that i was going to write don a letter as soon as i was done updating that day. well, i didn’t. and now it’s the last day of the month and i haven’t written him A SINGLE LETTER. ughhhh is updating this really more important than writing my friend? i cannot believe myself sometimes. i will make them up, but that’s not the point of the goal. i am so disappointed. (0/11 letters)

goal #13, no fast food:
still doing well on this one. yay!

goal #14, no soda for a year:
easy peasy. done and done. (4/131 weeks)

goal #23, go hiking twice a month for a year:
sophie and i made plans to go on saturday, but it didn’t work out. then we made plans to go today, but it didn’t work out. but, we are going tomorrow and i am counting it as this month! especially since i didn’t go hiking this month until like the 20th!  (2/2 times for 1/12 months)

goal #30, volunteer at least once a month:
today, i started my volunteer position at hope and a future. so excited for the upcoming christmas party! (1/33 months)

goal #33, compliment at least one stranger every day:
working at starbucks makes this goal a lot easier.  this week was also easier becuase of all the family events.family needs encouragement too. by the way, this goal has becoming increasingly second nature to me. i don’t even have to conciously think of complimenting someone anymore. i was just at the store today and i started talking to this guy in line about his shirt and how i liked the colors in it. the design was hideous, but gorgeous colors. focus on the positive 🙂 (28/1001)

goal #51, write a chapter for my book once a month:
well, it’s not quite an entire chapter, but they are my thoughts on adoption, emotions, birthing, children, love and separation this month. sometimes, you just can’t get a whole chapter out. especially because i tried to do it this week and it just wasn’t working. this was a bad week. too emotional. (1/33 months)

goal #60, buy a camera:
did it this week! thank you black friday sales! another goal completed! $5 in savings!!

goal#76, check account for spending twice a week:
still doing well. bought the camera this week which set me back some moola and also made some purchases at as you wish, ross (for housewares, not clothes!) and quiktrip for gas. (2/2 times for 4/131 weeks)

goal #81, wash hair using the no-poo system for a month:
okay, washed hair on friday. oilt today and yesterday. i thought we were over this! oh well, i am going to keep trying even though this month is over. i do like this system for the most part and i am saving SO. MUCH. MONEY.  also, goal completed! $5 in savings!!!!  (4/4 weeks)

drew and i took on north mountain this weekend and it was amazing. so beautiful. we took the main trail up but then came down the back way, which was much more rough and natural. the weather was absolutely gorgeous. (1/2 times for 1/12 months)

goal #64, buy something from etsy once a month:
bought this piece today.  love it. can’t wait for it to come in! (1/33 months)

it wasn’t a great week for me spending wise. i did do pretty well though! and i returned that pair of shoes i got from target last week, so that was exciting!  (2/2 times for 3/131 weeks)

goal #81, wash hair using the no-poo system for a month:
hair FINALLY dried out. i didn’t wash it at all this week! pretty disgusting, but i love it. will wash it today, promise. yayayayayay! i think that i shall keep it up!  (3/4 weeks)

I went through IMDB’s Top 250 Movies and decided which ones I wanted to see the most. Some of them are ones that I have already seen and want to see them again because they are that good, or because I don’t remember them. I know there are 30 movies on the list, and the goal is to see 25, but I figured I’d give myself some wiggle room.

goal #2, write don twice/month thru march, once in april:
i’m writing don a letter right now. i don’t feel like there’s a whole lot to update him on, but at least he’ll know i love him (1/11 letters)

goal #5, write to lydia once a month:
lydia is right after i finish my letter to don. she’s been at the forefront of my mind all week. she turned six months on the 11th. amazing. how does time pass??? (1/33 months)

my mom and i bought a basil plant today!!

goal #33, compliment at least one stranger every day:
working at starbucks makes this goal a lot easier. this week i complimented a few men, and got some nice tips. one guy tipped me six bucks after i complimented his t-rag belt buckle. holler.  (14/1001.)

left two notes today while we were out shopping. it made me smile just doing it.

goal#76, check account for spending twice a week:
i didn’t even use my card at all until yesterday, but i did check my account when i got home. i also just got done shopping with my mom and am glancing over those purchases now. my dad sprung it on me this week that i’ll also be paying for my gas now. i can’t really complain though, it is about time! i’m so spoiled. i’m hoping that my tips will be able to cover all my gas expenses.  (2/2 times for 2/131 weeks)

just transferred $100 over into savings. go me! (1/33 months)

goal, #78, pay off credit card:
just paid off another $100. rawr rawr rawr. why did i get a credit card in the first place?

goal #81, wash hair using the no-poo system for a month:
my hair is really oily still. i was under the impression that the baking soda would dry it out some. still washing my hair with no-poo every other day. this is what i did with regular shampoo 😦 oh well, i am still enjoying it and i actually really like the gritty feeling. is that weird? (2/4 weeks)

goal #82, shop at thift stores before going retail:
well, i needed new work shoes, and i didn’t want to spend a lot of time trying to find them. i don’t even know if a second hand store would carry the kind opf work shoes i need. i’d have to be soooo lucky. so i went to target and i spent$30 on work shoes. that were comfortable in the store and once i got home, i put them on, walked to the front door, took them off and went straight back to my room to put my old ones one. goodbye shoes, hello return!

goal #13, no fast food:
this week, i have had a sick craving for a sausage breakfast sandwich. nevermind the fact that i don’t eat pork products and haven’t for some time, really. i even went into the mcdonald’s (MCDONALD’S!!!) drive thru on saturday morning before i had to open at work to get one. luckily, they don’t start serving breakfast until 4am, and since that was the time i had to be at work, no sausage biscuit for me! other than that, avoiding fast food has been pretty easy for me.

working at starbucks makes this goal a lot easier. i’ve complimented (mostly women) on their hair, eye color, clothes, etc all week and it is lovely to see their faces light up. 7/1001.

goal #52, read one book a month.
already done for november, thanks to kelsi. we are reading janet evanovich’s stephanie plum series, and i just finished the fourth book in the series, four to score. it was a quick, easy read and absolutely hilarious. rex the hamster is awesome. 1/33

it was frightening, but i did it. booooo. definitely spent less than week than i would have otherwise. ugh. 2/2 times for 1/131 weeks.

goal #81, wash hair using the no-poo system for a month:
got back into it this week and i LOVE it! my hair is so much softer and shinier now. i just need to find a really good deep conditioner for it. i’ve hear avocados, mayonnaise and egg yolks are all good for dry hair, but i do need to research it a bit more to find a good recipe.  1/4 weeks.

goal #82, shop at thift stores before going retail:
had an itch for some new sweaters so i cleaned out my closet, took a bunch of clothes to buffalo exchange and got some cute new sweaters! a banana republic sweater, two cardigans, a knit cream colored shirt, a flowy, printed floral shirt and a vintage cream colored heart necklace for less than $50! yay me!

well…this is my first post this week…luckily for me, my week starts on monday and ends on sunday, so i can still post one more today! however, twice in one day is not what i had in mind. oh well. done and done. 1/131.

101 in 1001

I know I have been absent lately, but I have been preparing myself for the challenge that I am about to undertake. It is called “101 in 1001”, and essentially, you make a list of things you’d like to accomplish in the next 1001 days. They must be things that are completely in your control, and completely viable. Read more here.

Just for consistency’s sake, I am dividing 1001 days in (roughly) 3 years, 131 weeks, 33 months and each monthly goal, I am calling it 30 days. I’ll need lots of help and accountability with these things, so if you’d like to participate in any of this items with me, please let me know and let’s do them together! Italics are for entries in progress, and if an item has been crossed off it has been completed (with a link to the post with completion details!).
