cleanse: day six.

oh mondays. you have such a bad rep.

they are my early days. work starts at 8:30 rather than my normal 10am start. of course, an earlier start means an earlier end ­čÖé can’t argue with that.

brekkie was an apple and a cup of green tea. i munched on some carrots and strawberries. lunch was some more of that rainbow cabbage salad from sunday. a pickle on my way home.

and dinner. dinner was magnificent. i’ll let the pictures do the talking.┬á

cleanse: day five.

a grapefruit and another banana, alongside a cup of coffee.┬áethiopia┬áharrar to be exact ­čÖé

we went to a nearby park and spent an hour walking around a little aimlessly, getting lost and reveling in the humid heat of texas summers. on the way home, we stopped by the local grocery store.

when we got home, we crashed out for an hour or two. then headed into the kitchen to make this fabulous creation. 


and life is good.

cleanse: day four.

yesterday was a strange day.

i did not want to be at work and was dreading the day to come. it turned out to be a super smooth day, and i was so thankful.

i ate a big salad of cucumber, tomato, lemon + dill. i made it last night and let it sit in the fridge to marinate. it was fantastic, and so filling.  i got home and snacked on a banana (trying to increase that potassium!) and then made plans to meet up with a friend for coffee/tea. where i consumed 64 ounces of  iced black tea.

yes, really.

bouncing off the walls doesn’t even begin to describe what i was doing once i got home. it was especially annoying because drew was exhausted, i┬áfound┬áhim sleeping on the couch ­čÖé it took so much┬ápersuasion┬áto not shake him awake and tell him all about the exciting/weird/caffeine-induced-high/need-something-more-stimulating┬áday i was having!(!!!!!)

when he woke up, we  sat out on the patio and shared some more of the dill salad. i also brought out a container of that golden kiss melon + strawberries. we picked back and forth as we discussed plans for the evening. the moon was going to be bright and almost full, with not a cloud in the sky. perfect for a nighttime ride.

instead, we cleaned the bathroom. it needed it badly. we bleached the shit out of that tub and its stupid tiled walls where mold likes to multiply in the grout lines.

later, i made some more strawberry + banana soft serve, added in a tbsp of chia seeds this time. i didn’t have very much water yesterday, so i thought a little chia action would do me well for hydration.

not a lot of food was eaten yesterday, but it was enough ­čÖé then, we passed out from what was sure to be an over-inhalation┬áof bleach products. yayyyy brain damage. at least it is CLEAN now and we can maintain it with much less harmful chemical-free products.

before we decided to “just lay down for a minute” , drew set a timer on his phone to go off in twenty minutes so that we wouldn’t miss the moonlight ride we were so excited about.

i woke up around 2am, looked at the clock, shrugged and went promptly back to sleep.

cleanse: day three.

a banana and a cup of green tea were consumed on the way to work this morning. i woke up very late and was super rushed. i haven’t slept well recently, which is part of the reason i decided this cleanse was a good idea. but the last two nights, i’ve woken up in the middle of the night with horrendous charlie horse cramps in my calves. during high school, i got them all. the. time. but haven’t had any (especially to that extreme! it was awful) in years. i know i’m drinking plenty of water, i’m keeping my exercise to a minimum this week and i feel like i’m getting enough potassium + calcium. but clearly my body is telling me something’s not right. time to reevaluate! any thoughts/advice/nuggets of wisdom?

being rushed to work was only preparing me for the day to come. ever have days like that? ­čÖé my tummy was begging for food hours before i had a chance to eat, which ended up being about 15 minutes. i wolfed down another stuffed portobello on a bed of spinach and a bowl of grapes + strawberries. my boss walked by and saw my little mushroom and said “aw that looks good. it’s so cute!” (this is coming from a man who wore overalls to go play pool two days ago). cute food FTW!

i also snacked on another pickle, and ate a giant honeycrisp apple in the car on the way home. traffic on a friday at 5pm is god-awful. sometimes i get so bored i bang my head against the steering wheel. seriously. other times, i take pictures, call friends (or my mom!), sing + dance super obnoxiously. that last one is my favorite because when you are in a dead stop in bumper-to-bumper traffic for an hour and you are just rocking out to whatever terrible music is on the radio, not taking yourself seriously and genuinely entertaining yourself, the people in the cars next to you/behind you/in front of you, they can’t help but smile. right? it’s either that or everyone on the 360 thinks i’m INSANE. also, my commute is a great time to take pictures. like this one:

would you believe me if i told my driving record is almost spotless? 

dinner was…you guessed it…stuffed portobello with a side of spinach. but this one i covered in garlic tabasco! variety is the spice of life, friends. i cannot stress how good this condiment is. if you like spicy food and garlic (um. who doesn’t?), please add this to your pantry immediately. since you are probably tired of hearing about this mushroom trip i’m on (not┬ápsychedelically), you shall be happy to hear that dinner completed the leftover mushroom extravaganza! tomorrow will be another tasty dish, and hopefully i’ll get that recipe out to you all. i also made myself a smoothie (frozen berries, 1 cup spinach, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1/2 c. water, 1/2 c. dark cherry juice; blend. serve). it was tasty, but needed a little something extra, so i squeezed a little fresh lime juice on it and sucked it down in approximately 2.6 seconds.

we’ve had a delicious golden kiss melon sitting in our fruit bowl for days. it was time to cut it up! it looks like a┬ácantaloupe┬ábut with dark green stripes down the side. it also tasted similar to a cantaloupe, but it was a little sweeter, and more ripe. it also seemed more dense, like the texture of a papaya or even a mango! i liked it a lot, and cantaloupe is pretty much the last fruit i will eat. anyway, if you get a chance to try it, and if you like melons at all, do it! (fellow austinites, find it at central market.)

now, we are off to see snow white and the huntsman. drew was excited about it from the minute he saw the first preview! i’m kind of bummed to be going to the drafthouse and not have beer, but i love having the great energy that comes from this kind of cleanse. balance is the goal!

so tell me, any tips for treating muscle spasms? what’s your daily commute like? have you had any good mushroom trips lately? ­čśë

cleanse: day two.

yesterday, i ate:

-a banana
-a bowl of grapes + strawberries
-zucchini + tomato stuffed portobello on a bed of spinach (recipe coming soon)
-dill pickle
-HUGE salad with spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, corn, cucumber, red bell peppers, onions, jalapenos + cabbage. i covered that thing with sriracha and feasted with chopsticks.

dessert was calling my name, so i whipped together a strawberry-banana soft serve-esque thing. throw some frozen strawberries (about a cup) and a banana (i didn’t have any frozen ones on hand, so i used fresh, and it turned out amazing!) into your processor. chop/grind/pulse/what-have-you until desired consistency. i stopped a couple times to scrape down the sides, but total time was MAYBE two minutes. and check out the results:

i feel:

camped on the beach. woke up with the sun. it was glorious.

7. did you see the supermoon? it was cloudy here, but i was still swooning.

9. heirloom tomatoes. they look like little stars or flowers when you slice them open.

10.  found an amazing little dive bar in my neighborhood
and it has the most fantastic outdoor space.
also, cheap beer!

cleanse: day one.

of a seven day fruit and veggie cleanse. i’ve been feeling out of whack and sluggish lately, and overall unsatisfied.
nothing like a little detox to get back on track.

today, i ate a huge salad with lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, mushrooms, bell peppers, pepperocinis, onion and garlic. topped it off with a little oil and vinegar.

then, i had some strawberries and cherries.

a pickle.

a banana.

and a bunch of carrots.

dinner is yet to be decided.

i’ve also had two cups of green tea and 96 ounces of water.

and multiple trips to pee.

i’m super grumpy right now and was just laying on my bed crying because i want carbs so badly.

which only makes me that much more certain that this is a good decision for my health. ­čÖé
